For bigger productions, Kim employs a more cerebral thought process to her creations where shapes, formations, staging and costumes take priority. Expression is not just limited to movement of the dancers but also the action of the camera and editing, the set design, the lighting, etc. Even the spectator can infer on the process. In smaller- scale pieces however, the focus is more about local movements, naturalness and gestural clarity with an interest in "resolving conflicts," or starting and finishing a cycle within the same piece. Prowess, sexuality and vulnerability are common themes in her choreography though she's inspired by all human relations and their connection to the natural world.
Kim believes that all expression stems from our core; our center of pleasure and the manipulation of the gravitational muscles that work to maintain our equilibrium. These are the same forces that register alterations to our emotional state and thus generate meaning production.
For advertising campaigns, Kim understands that dance adds value to products and increases brand equity due to its role as a silent communicator able to connect celebratory experiences seen onscreen with product consumption. Centuries of inherent drama live within dance making it impossible for the viewer not to automatically associate the visceral feelings it evokes with the product being marketed.
Kim loves to work with dancers and non-dancers expanding on the person's most natural movements to produce a congruity between a raw, emotional truth and a physical articulation.
